the budgens near me has had a makeover and its focus is clearly on the community with much of its stock also reflecting the local punter.
i think this is a smart move and i can see this happening more and more. i've often wondered why the big retail chains don't reflect local communities more within individual stores. why they often stock the same products regardless of the location and why the stores have no local feel to them. would be great if they actually started stocking local produce from the area itself. that i think is the next step, it only needs to be a small section but its got to be a good thing and worth trying. the localness thing is going to be a big theme this year across a number of categories i reckon.
