indeed wholefoods is open in london, as in trading, but my experience there today was of an organisation a little closed. i'm a fan of wholefoods, i usually spend a fortune in the union square store when i visit new york, but i got pounced on by 2 staff today as i tried to take a photo of their very impressive range of bottled beers, which i was going to blog about. 'absolutely no photos' they barked, 'people come from miles away to steal our secrets' they said. i found this weird and throroughly at odds with the vibe of wholesome trading. it's a shop, selling food, not a secret laboratory, why so edgy? taking photos is going to harm the business? please. anyone can come in and look, what would they have done if i'd started sketching or used my photographic memory? local traders love having photos taken of their stores, but this policy smacked of large corporate behaviour. shame.
