search and you will find?

well, often stuff you clearly weren't looking for. now and then i like to look at my blog stats, visitor numbers are certainly not rocking technorati and that's fine, (it's not why i do this, though don't get me wrong i love a comment or three) but i love seeing how some people find themselves looking at my blog in the search for something very very different and very specific. my post on virtual air hostesses last year is proving a popular one.

Turn the computer on love..I'll put kettle on

this is fun. been a bit of a video day. stumbled across ilovemusicvideos which is a mashup between last.fm and YouTube which allows you to find all videos on YouTube relevant to the artist you're listening to on last.fm, including official stuff, bootleg concerts and impersonators. i lost myself in a Cult video medley earlier. took me right back. was having a chat with Fin via isight at work as well. and i've just moved my imac down into our lounge, first steps preparing what was the study for the new arrival. so the mac is at one end of the room and the TV is at the other. and i started thinking about the appleTV thing which has been kind of buried under the iPhone chat.
i think i watch more stuff on a computer screen than i do on TV. i'm wondering if i could watch the stuff i find through my mac but via the nice flat screen TV i think i would. TV/Computer, Computer/TV? Where do they sit in the home? What's it all about then? Anyone?

the chubby long fluffy tail

so this is a pensioner in east germany who breeds giant rabbits. he won a prize for the biggest rabbit in germany and through power of t'internet north korea have been in touch with him about setting up a breeding programme there to help food shortages.a case of the long fluffy tail perhaps...

my life is too fast right now. looking forward to a christmas break. when you're working like a loon and with a little 'un at home it can be hard to find web time. time to read the blogs you like. find new stuff. then there's checking out new music and video and that. i stumbled across this clip of thom the don doing a stunning acoustic version of the clock via the ace ateaseweb. it's from the later with Jools show last friday night which i didn't see. didn't even know it was running. so i thank youtube and the blogs in my world which help me catch up with stuff i like and lead me to many new things. love it.

another neat Flickr app. this shows you the most popular cameras and camera phones being used to take and upload photos to Flickr. the graphs show change in a camera's popularity moving up or down. nice

this is my blog in german. my stats show someone german was reading this post today. awesome translation application. bit weird as i ran into a load of Hamburg footie fans last night on my way into the arsenal game. curiously they sang a lot of their songs in english

desktop turntablism

the macdaddy sent me this. its a fun app, really easy to use which gives you a pair of virtual turntables and a mixer and allows you to drag and drop tracks from your itunes and mix them up - and it's idiot proof, the step up is that it includes pitch controls and a fader and it's fairly responsive. I tried to use headphones to cue up one track but this

suggests i need a another plug in. anyway big up to these guys for the work, look forward to a headphone cue solution soon!

monetise the energy

there's clearly been loads of talk around the Google/You Tube deal and Faris offers up a number of possible scenarios in terms of strategic directions. the tagging view is one which interests me especially. what is interesting is the huge numbers of people viewing clips and the gradual shift towards clip culture over full length programming. personally i rarely have time for a full hit of tv/video programming, just give me a decent snack sized portion or a short high quality dose of entertainment or bit of factual and make it easy for me to find stuff that i'm into. and give it to me on my mac over the tv. so for me YouTube is already more interesting than TV. i ran some focus groups for O2 a while back looking at some concepts for sport fans. at the end of one group, one of the respondents sent me this dennis bergkamp clip via bluetooth totally blowing the idea of paid for content out of the water (which we'd been discussing). i'm an arsenal fan, a season ticket holder so i posted it to YouTube and it's had 6,500 views based on a couple of key tagged words. i find that bonkers. but brilliant. there's a lot of talk about legal copyright issues and court cases. but let's not forget the vast number of users who ultimately will be the reason why deals will be done. so in the words of a leading LA based music attorney who i had the pleasure of meeting in a recent workshop "we've just got to figure out how to monetise the energy" i reckon there's a t-shirt in that.
