i like a text wall. people's micro posts around a subject area (in this case music at the electric proms) makes for interesting reading. plus it's living, it evolves and changes. should be much more outdoor work that invites people to comment

phone in a cab

a sweet idea from O2, a free phone in a cab. we'd had a few ales, we called a friend, you talk through the speaker system in the cab, it worked, it was free, we all laughed. nice.

it's not pretty is it? surely there's a more efficient way to charge a phone and reduce the need to manufacture and distribute chargers with every phone sold. How many chargers are there per head? I think i have about 10. innovation around basic functionality can be category leading.

top banana

ahhh the 8110, the 'banana' phone. i've been thinking about this for a while, i used to have one (about 10 years ago i think?)and i wondered how it would feel today, so i got one via ebay. it arrived this morning as did this rant to the modern day mobile phone which raises some interesting and amusing points about the evolution and effect of the mobile phone.
one thing about the 'banana' is it feels great to hold to the ear and i think more comfortable than the smaller blocks we use today...

iphone tuesday?

so tomorrow is Steve Jobs keynote speech at the Macworld conference and many people are expecting the long awaited and much discussed official announcement of the Apple mobile phone or iphone. there's been loads of debate on how it might work, what functionality it may have, will it be exclusively marketed with one operator per country, will Apple launch their own virtual network (MVNO), will it be a VOIP phone, will it even have music functionality. Who knows?
What we can be pretty sure of when Apple does launch a mobile phone is good looks, simple user interface, seamless connectivity with key mac apps and a few quirks and surprises for us to stumble across. And shed loads of people are going to want one.
