this just makes total sense, should be default for all companies that use natural resources in the running of their business, which is all business i reckon.
i took part in a panel at the Guardian last week on sustainability and advertising. George Monbiot who was also on the panel writes about it here. I snapped the screen shot above last week, check the headline and then the 4 x 4 advert to the right of the post. surreal.
Earth Hour is happening on Saturday 8.30 pm local time globally – idea is you power down in the darkness for an hour, drink some ale and contemplate our obscene energy use and general carbon heavy lifestyles. Then start to make some changes in your day to day life. It’s all good. Sign up and get involved.
Some people question what's the point of an hour? Well the point is to use the time to reflect on our energy addiction, then try and actually make some conscious effort moving forward to become less dependent and more aware of our ridiculousness around lighting, heating, charging, powering, general energy use and overall consumption madness. Still not convinced? Go watch age of stupid, that should get you thinking.
Anyway I've been working with Nokia on their energy awareness work and here's another way to get involved around earth hour and beyond. We're trying to get the message out that as we all charge our phones like lunatics, sucking chargers left plugged in everywhere, charging through the night etc etc, we need to nip this madness in the bud. Get some charging discipline and that. So go create your own socket face and pledge some energy goodness.
